Coronet safety in planes

I’ve had several queries in recent weeks about the best way to manage the Well Red Coronet when flying.

Always take it with you in your cabin baggage. When you pack your Coronet in your carry-on bag, make sure that you put some soft padding inside it - rolled up socks, T-shirts or scarves are great. It just helps it keep its shape.

Don’t ever feel tempted to flatten out your Coronet as you will almost certainly cause damage. Once it is set up for your head, it should stay in that shape.

Coronets have travelled around the world in cabin baggage, and there have been no problems with security. I remember going through airport security, quite some years ago now, with my home-made bucket light device in my carry-on bag, fully expecting a question about it. No-one even raised an eyebrow and I was a bit surprised and a tiny bit miffed.

Since then my Coronet has happily travelled in the cabin with me, and as before, I’ve never had any reactions from security staff.

Don’t pack your Coronet in your main luggage as once your suitcase is in the custody of any airline company, there are no guarantees of due care being taken.

And remember, don’t flatten your Coronet ever.
